Life Goes On...

The coronavirus pervades everything, even if you “don’t believe” in it.
We’ve been “ordered” to wear masks by government. We wear them and see others wear them, but we don’t like the reminder that there is an invisible dangerous virus.

And the news reminds us of the crazy political things going on, and the ongoing protests and violence. It is scary. This is not the way we want things to be.

Such as it is though, life goes on. People have the usual problems and joys. Babies are being born. People are getting hired for new jobs, at least some are. We are eating some tasty food, loving family, talking to friends, getting sunburned. Money is being made. I can stay at my house, operate in my little circle, or walk outdoors, and do my things online.

Life goes on. Like the virus, life refuses to stop because we are upset about it, or in denial of it, or confused about it. Opportunities are still happening, though we might like different ones or more of them.

The weather hasn’t stopped. A heavy rainstorm recently caused our creek to get out of its banks and invade our yard, streaming under the fence and leaving piles of brush in the yard. Hot days are counterpoint to rain, and there have been plenty of those too with heavy humidity that makes you itch when you just go outdoors.

What should we do? Let’s see, what are the options? Worry. Watch lots of news. Worry more. Eat, sleep, pray, make love. Parent our children. Work online. Work in places where we may worry. Share stories about worry. Read. Be inspired to do something meaningful. Argue. Social media. Worry more. Grieve. Be proud. Be scared. Worship. Complain. We can also explore new outdoor places, Meditate, Listen to music.

We go on, just like the good and bad things in our lives. “The rain falls on the just and the unjust.” And we can add, “the sun shines on the just and the unjust” too.

We can accept and use the blessings of rain and sun when they come. We can build reserve for the times when we don’t have it. We also need to get food for our soul and spirit to help carry us over.

You are doing what you have to do. Are you doing some things to actually care for yourself?

Each week I am leading a Twenty Minute Meditation. I'd love to have you join me. If you reach out to me at jayclose@me.com I'll send you the link to the LIVE online meeting.
